Basic-Photoshop-Skills-That-You-Should-Learn

Before we get into the basic skills of Photoshop, it would be a good idea to explain what this program is. Photoshop is a photo editing program that allows you to edit large sections of photos and it lets you create amazing digital paintings that are customized to your preferences. It is often used by animators, web designers, photographers and graphic designers. Layers are also a part of Photoshop. With this feature the designer can arrange images in such a way that images can move across the image underneath it.Layers are used to eliminate and add visual effects to images. You can use Photoshop to create diverse characters and landscapes. Here are some basic Photoshop skills you should know.

Non Destructive Editing

This is important in Photoshop because it lets you edit images as often as possible without ruining them. As stated in the previous paragraph, layers is the way you would do this. Any edits you create must be saved on a separate layer, and if you want to remove those changes you would delete the layer. There are also adjustment layers that allow you to edit images’ tones and color. You click on Adjustment Layer and then choose the edit you’re interested in.

Using Levels Feature

This feature is cool because they are designed to add pizzazz to otherwise flat and boring-looking images. To access Levels you need to go to CTRL+L on your computer then clicking on the adjustment layer section and going to the Levels button.

Spot Healing Brush

The purpose of spot healing brush is to remove small imperfections from your images. You go the toolbar and click on Spot Healing Brush. Then click on the problem area within the image and remove it. You’ll have a better looking picture with this tool.

Shortcuts of the Keyboard

These shortcuts will make things easier as you use Photoshop. The V button lets you move items around while the B key is used as a paintbrush tool. The E key is best used for erasing and the Ctrl button allows you to repeat layers within your images.

The Face Aware Liquify Feature

This tool is neat for adjusting facial features within your images. Within this tool are Face Aware Liquify sliders and they simplify the process of changing facial features in photos. You can change the height and width of the nose or mouth, and you can resize the shape and angle of the eyes. The Face Tool feature is great because it lets you click and drag changes directly on the image. To open Face Aware Liquify you would go to Filter Liquify and then edit by clicking and dragging in the preview section. You can also change more than one face with this tool.

Using the Clone Stamp

Retouching in Photoshop is made easy with the Clone Stamp. It allows you to borrow pixels from one image and apply them to a new one. After opening Clone Stamp, you would move the cursor to the section you’re interested in cloning and then press the Alt-click button. Then move the cursor to the cloned sections and paint over them. If using the Clone Stamp tool, it’s important that you create a layer since this reduces destructive editing. It also helps to zoom in as much as possible before retouching the areas. Remember your brush sizes as this helps with the tool. The left bracket reduces brush size and the right bracket increases it.

Exporting and Importing Images

After opening Photoshop you would import photos right-click the file you want then go to File and choose the Open button. From this step you’ll need to open the two files you want and click on the Duplicate button. Then you would click on one of the files and then select OK. After this step is complete you’ll import your files by dragging one image to the other file. To export files, click on Save As on the File menu, then you would go to the Save As Type button. Finally, choose the file type and you’re finished. These skills lay the right foundation for understanding Photoshop and using it effectively.
